You are pursuing a career as a dental assistant, the next step is creating your very own dental assistant resume. I have here some key points when writing a dental assistant resume. Once you’ve become a certified dental assistant, you’ll need to find an amenable dental practice at which to work and the first step toward starting your new career is to draft an effective dental assistant resume. If you’ve already been a dental assistant for a time but want to change practices or need to find work after a break from work or a move to a new location, you’ll still need to polish off your dental assistant resume before you begin your job search. Your dental assistant resume could make or break your chances of finding a position in this field, especially since openings are usually relegated only to new dental practices or openings after current dental assistants transfer jobs.

how to write dental assistant resume

No matter the stage you’re at in your dental assistant career, you’ll want to remember to focus on your relevant strengths while writing your dental assistant resume. Potential employers will want to know about your educational background, your certification and any relevant experience. If you’re new to the field, you can pad your resume with other work and leadership experience, just to demonstrate your work ethic and motivation. Just remember never to lie or exaggerate on your dental assistant resume—these things are easy enough to check—and to keep your dental assistant resume down to one page. Use proactive words whenever possible.

Dental Assistant Resume – The Basics

Your contact information.
  1. Be sure to include your full name, present and permanent address, your contact numbers (telephone numbers, cell phone numbers and your e-mail address).
  2. This information will be your contact point whenever you got shortlisted for the applied position.
  3. Put your objective. Be brief, yet concise.
  4. For instance put it this way: “Seeking an entry-level dental hygienist position (since you just finished from the dental assistant course) in a favorable environment.”
  5. Make your personal objective explain everything, in very few words.
  6. Include your relevant skills.
  7. These skills should be work-related ones.
  8. You can put your on-the-job training skills that you acquired.
  9. Since you are applying for an entry-level position, that would suffice.
  10. Education details.
  11. This is where you put your degree or course plus the college or the university you attended.
  12. Detailed experience.
  13. The place where you will put all the relevant experience you have acquired.
  14. It may be during your school days or gained through your internship.

Dental Assistant Resume – Additional Information

  • If there are other experiences that you might think that will beneficial, you can also include that.
  • Remember that in doing this, there should be a detailed explanation of your experience; the name of the company or institution, its location, your length of stay and your duties and responsibilities.
  • Trainings and seminars you have attended.
  • Aside from your experience, this portion is also one factor that most prospective employers are looking.
  • In this section, they will see whether they will invest in you or not.
  • Now, when doing this, try to include the title of the trainings and/or the seminars you attended, the location or venue, the date and the speaker.
  • The reference section is not that necessary but if you are willing to provide contact references that would be better for your cause.
  • This section will include notable references that you recommend that your prospective employer can connect when doing something like “character investigation”.
  • Try to include the reference name, designation, address, and do not forget the contact number.
  • However, you can put “furnished upon request” note here.
  • Sign your dental assistant resume to prove that all written are authentic and true.
  • This signifies the validity of your resume and a touch of professionalism.
  • This information that I dispensed is just a guide for you to have a professional-looking dental assistant resume.

Here is a sample dental assistant resume for a person new to the field. If you already have experience in the field, you will want to highlight that experience and remove references to any non-dental assistant experience if you need the room to fit all of your information on one page of your dental assistant resume.
